»Senator Alexander Proposes “New Manhattan Project For Clean Energy Independence”
Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.)has proposed “launching a 5-year New Manhattan Project to put America firmly on the path to clean energy independence within a generation.”  Alexander, chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, told a gathering of scientists that "the goal will be clean energy independence – so that we can deal with rising gasoline prices, electricity prices, clean air, climate change and national security – for our country first, and – because other countries have the same urgent needs and therefore will adopt our ideas – for the rest of the world.” Read More
»UQM ZeroTruck™ Debuts in Las Vegas
UQM TECHNOLOGIES, INC., a developer of alternative energy technologies, announced that the ZeroTruck™, an all-electric zero emission medium duty truck powered by a UQM® PowerPhase™ electric propulsion system is making its industry debut at the Alterna tive Fuel Vehicle Institute’s 2008 Alternative Fuels & Vehicles National Conference and Expo.  The ZeroTruck™, being developed by Electrorides, Inc. of Laguna Niguel, California, is the first electric truck in its class to be offered for sale in the United States in 2008.  The ZeroTruck™ offers a low cab forward design, a fully automated transmission, 100 mile range with full highway capability, lithium polymer batteries, an onboard battery charger and regenerative braking. »Azure Dynamics Announces the Appointment of Jay A. Sandler as Vice President of Sales
Azure Dynamics Corporation, a developer of hybrid electric and electric powertrains for commercial vehicles, announced the appointment  of Jay A. Sandler as Vice President of Sales.  Azure CEO Scott T. Harrison said, “Having Jay join our team is an excellent fit with his tremendous background in the medium and heavy duty fleet vehicle market.”  Sandler joins the Azure team at its global headquarters after serving as Vice President of commercial products at Workhorse Custom Chassis LLC, a Division of Navistar Inc. in Troy, MI since late 1999. »Electric Vehicle Company, RTEV, To Launch
RTEV, one of the first electric vehicle companies to deliver affordable electric Low Speed Vehicles, launched at Georgia Tech. RTEV is comprised of two divisions, Ruff & Tuff and Wheego. The company currently features three recreational vehicles under its Ruff & Tuff brand.  Low Speed Vehicles are a US Department of Transportation designation for cars that can be licensed and driven on roads that have speed limits of 35 MPH and less. Ruff and Tuff sales totaled nearly 1,000 vehicles in 2007 through its growing national dealer network. In Q3 2008 RTEV will introduce a line of electric scooters and bicycles under the Wheego brand, to be followed by the auto shaped LSVs in 2009, and full-size, full-speed electric vehicles in 2010. »Electrovaya enters into battery pack design and production program with Phoenix Motorcars
Electrovaya Inc. announced it is negotiating a purchase and supply agreement and has begun work on a battery pack design and production program with Phoenix Motorcars, a California-based electric vehicle manufacturer. This project includes certain upfront engineering design services and hardware production. Electrovaya has received payment in advance for a substantial portion of this work. Electrovaya’s program will be focused on the production of integrated battery systems for Phoenix Motorcars’ long-range, zero-emission, electric, sports utility vehicles and sport utility trucks. These battery systems will feature Electrovaya’s proprietary Lithium Ion SuperPolymer® battery technology and integrated intelligent battery management system. Phoenix Motorcars will develop and manufacture the vehicles at its facility in Ontario, California. Read More
