EDTA Applauds Congressional Support for Electric Drive Infrastructure in Tax Bill Passage
Friday, December 17, 2010
Washington, D.C.—December 17, 2010—Both Houses of Congress today passed the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act of 2010, which extends for one year the tax credits provided to residential and commercial property owners for installing electric vehicle charging stations. Residential owners can receive a tax credit up to $1,000 for installing a home charging station while commercial property owners can qualify for a tax credit for up to $30,000 for installing fast charging stations. Below is a statement from Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA) President Brian Wynne:
“We applaud Congress for extending these charging station tax credits for the growth of plug-in electric vehicles in the U.S. In this early stage of electrifying our transportation system, incentives for charging infrastructure will speed the proliferation of easy and convenient charging options at home, work and on the road.
“The country will recognize significant economic, environmental and energy security benefits as more Americans drive plug-in electric vehicles. We look forward to working with the 112th Congress and the Administration to address other policy priorities critical to accelerating the growth of electric vehicle adoption, such as the extension of the incentive for hybrid and plug-in hybrid trucks.
“The credit extension for hybrid and plug-in hybrid trucks is important for consumers and the U.S. electric drive industry because it will not only help increase the adoption of electric vehicles, but also assist in growing clean energy jobs, increase U.S. economic competitiveness, and help America reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on foreign oil.”
