Underwriters Laboratories


Underwriters Laboratories is an independent product safety certification organization that has been testing products and writing standards for safety for more than a century. UL evaluates more than 19,000 types of products, components, materials and systems annually with 20 billion UL Marks appearing on 66,000 manufacturers' products each year. UL's worldwide family of companies and network of service providers includes 68 laboratory, testing and certification facilities serving customers in 102 countries.


United Illuminating


The United Illuminating Company (UI) is an electric transmission and distribution utility based in New Haven, Connecticut. Our service territory consists of 17 municipalities located in a coastal region of Connecticut. The 320,000 residential customers within this area comprise approximately 35% of Connecticut's total population. UI believes Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) are an opportunity to dramatically reduce our dependence on foreign fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions. UI has marketed a converted Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid electric vehicle to inform our customers about the technology and its benefits.
