Washington, D.C.—July 28,
2010—From Electric Drive Transportation
Association (EDTA) President Brian
Wynne:
"We are extremely pleased that
this week both Houses of Congress issued key
proposals that recognize the vital role that
electric drive will play in our national energy
policy.
“Senate leaders
yesterday released the Clean Energy Jobs and
Oil Accountability Act, which includes the
‘Promoting Electric Vehicles Act of 2010’
as reported with bipartisan support from the
Energy Committee. The provisions would
advance national, regional and local deployment
of plug-in electric drive and support electric
drive technology advances. We applaud
their acknowledgement of the contribution that
electric drive can make in reducing U.S.
dependence on oil, cutting greenhouse gas
emissions from the transportation sector and
building the clean energy economy.
“The House Ways and Means
Committee’s ‘Domestic Manufacturing and
Energy Jobs Act of 2010’, released Monday,
also contains critical incentives for electric
vehicles, infrastructure and manufacturing that
will grow the industry and speed vehicles into
the market. We applaud the Chairman and
the Committee for their leadership in promoting
investment in advanced batteries and fuels
cells, boosting deployment of medium and heavy
duty hybrid and plug-in vehicles and extending
and modernizing the incentive for alternative
fuel infrastructure credit. Working together,
these incentives will advance electric drive
vehicle production and adoption across the
transportation sector while creating jobs and
reducing oil dependence.”
